SON PRIM MERLOT 2021, 75cl

Jaime J. Llabrés, owner and manager of SON PRIM describes this wine as follows:

Intense and elegant Merlot red wine. Purple-red color with violet reflections. Complex on the nose, with aromas of coffee, caramel and toast, as well as aromas of raspberry and mint. Lots of fruit in the mouth, powerful, pleasant acidity, round and long, aged in barriques for 16 months, great aging potential.

In the early 1990s, Jaime Llabrés planted a small plot of land with a mixture of vines, including Prensal, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Syrah, Cabernet and Merlot, to see how they would thrive in the climate and soil of Mallorca.

To make the wine from the first grapes of these different varieties, they used small stainless steel tanks with a cooling system, placed under a very large carob tree. Interestingly, the results were very satisfactory. The aging took place in barrels that were simply placed in the cool cellar of a garage in Palma.

In the mid-90s, the whole family was involved in planting new vines, including the young Jaime J. Llabrés, who now runs the winery. At the age of five, he began to discover the world of wine and grew as the vineyard grew. Today, he manages customer relations and oversees the operation of the winery and vineyard.

The winery soon reached its limits. It became apparent that it would be better to build a new winery, which was completed in 2014, in the middle of the countryside, right next to the new vineyards. There is now enough space for fermentation and room in the cellar for aging of fine wines.
